Under 80 kg and 100 workouts on Hevy

Illustrated dumbbells and a workout log beside swimming goggles in a quiet gym

On 29 October, I logged 79.95 kg in Hevy, the first time my weight had dropped below 80 kg. I clocked my 100th workout around the same time, with Hevy counting 133 hours of effort across those sessions. Seeing both numbers so close together was lovely, even if the scale could easily move back above 80 on another morning. Well, I shared the good news with David and he did remind me to pay more attention on BF% than the actual weight. It is still at low high 22% - low 23% for now so I am watching it like a hulk (get it? get it?).

I was almost 92 kg after our Korea trip last December. I returned to swimming in January before Yucong and David invited me to try the gym with them in May. My weight has not come down in a straight line, with some mornings higher despite all the work and much of September and October spent hovering around the low 80s.

The 100 workouts also remind me of all the nights I found time to train around work and family, often after everyone else had gone to sleep. I am glad I chose to use ChatGPT to plan the sessions I do on my own, especially when I can only train with David on Saturdays. He makes sure my form is correct when I execute the exercises and guides me through what needs work. I am grateful for all the time David has given me throughout what has been a wonderful gym journey so far.

I have kept swimming too, although less often than I did at the start of the year. I get into the water from time to time these days, at least once on Sundays while the kids train with Uncle Jack. Having this regular routine to swim matters to me, especially as I hope to draw up the courage to enter a swim meet myself next year regardless of my timing or results. My gym progress has given me a bit more confidence to work towards that too.

There is still the food side to sort out. I am somewhat lazy about tracking macros and I eat out all the time. Chicken rice is a prime example. I know I could ask for plain rice, but what is a good chicken rice without the oily rice? It is the same with other food that I like. Once I start swapping out ingredients that make them truly what they are, I am thinking about eating something else instead already. I need to find a way of eating that I can actually stick with, and note to self, get more protein in. I am starting on Greek yoghurt as well.

I am also low-key thinking of trying creatine. So far, asking different friends has yielded the same answer each time: they think I should take it. Thinking of getting one and trying out in Nov/Dec and see how it goes!
