A bit more about me / 01
About me.
I'm Steven Liew. Between work and a family of six, my list of things I want to try is usually longer than the time I have to try them. I write about the projects I manage to get to and the things I'm still figuring out.
I first got into coding at age 7 and started coding commercially at 12 years old. I spent most of my mid teens scripting around C and C++ in the Unix environment. These days I tinker with Home Assistant and my own projects when time allows. It's hard to fit my schedule around a relatively large family of 6 but I try to survive. I still haven't been able to solve this problem though: How do I sleep 8 hours in 4 hours?
For work, I'm the Managing Director of an IT company and Co-Founder & COO of another in a different niche. Most of my work is about untangling problems and keeping things moving. Coding sits outside my day job. I do it because I enjoy it.
Outside work.
I was a semi-competitive swimmer when I was younger. These days I'm at the pool for four kids, but I'm trying to find my way back into the water myself. Perhaps I'll even become a Masters swimmer. I started lifting in May 2026 to get stronger. Cubing has stuck with me since 2022 and I still bring a cube almost everywhere.
Games, too.
I'm a gamer dad and an achievement hunter. If a game gives me a list of things to finish, there's a good chance I'll be there long after the sensible stopping point. I suppose the same part of my brain likes cubes.
Tools I've used.
I've used a fair number of tools over the years, usually because a project made me learn one more. Here are some I've spent time with.
